Chapter 6

The following morning, Finn woke up to the ringing of her phone. She looked around her room in hopes that Hunter wasn’t there beside her. She recalled the night before him dropping her off to her house after she declined his offer to spend the night with him. As much as she wanted to, she couldn’t do it. Finn located her phone at the foot of her bed. She sat up in bed and reached over grabbing it. Looking at the caller id, it displayed Logan’s number. She was reluctant to answer but decided to speak with him to ask about his mother.

“Hello.”

“Good morning beautiful.”

“Good morning,” Finn said while yawning. “I’m sorry. Excuse me. I just woke up.”

“It’s okay. I’m still here at the hospital. Mom had a minor stroke last night, but she’s doing fine. I have one of the best doctors here moving into my house along with her to monitor her full time until she gets better.” Logan explained. She rolled her eyes at the mention of him moving someone else in his home. This was the reason they barely had time to spend with one another. It was good to hear that his mother was doing well, but she wasn’t too thrilled to hear that his mother was now moving in with him temporarily. There was nothing she could say or do about it. Logan’s mind was already made up.

“I’m glad she’s doing okay. Can I call you back later? I’m still tired.” Finn said. She was disappointed and it seemed like the closer she thought she would get to Logan, his family found a way to push them further apart.

“I thought you would be up to going out to breakfast with me. I guess I can swing by and bring you some lunch.”

“That’s fine.” Finn didn’t give Logan a chance to respond. She ended the call and laid the phone down beside her. The guilt of sneaking around with Hunter started to dissipate. The idea of getting married no longer excited her. Logan’s main priorities didn’t include putting her first. This wasn’t the ideal husband she had in mind for herself. Finn’s phone started ringing again. She snatched it up thinking it was Logan calling her back, but she noticed it was Samai. “Hello,” Finn answered.

“Hey, Finn. How are you?”

“I’m okay.”

“Are you ready to start planning the wedding? What do you have done so far? Did you guys decide on a venue yet?”

“Samai, I’m really not in the mood to talk about this right now. Can you call me back later?”

“Why? What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. I’m just waking up and this isn’t the first thing I want to talk about right now.”

“Finn, your days are limited until Christmas. You need to get on a ball with this wedding. Hold on a second.” Samai put Finn on hold to answer her other line. Finn climbed out of bed knowing that her sister wasn’t going to let her go back to sleep anytime soon. Planning a wedding was the last thing on her mind.
